Program Details
Production Metallurgy and Technologies Engineering master's program; It is a graduate program that provides education under the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at ITU Institute of Science and Technology.
Production Metallurgy
and Technologies Engineering is the production of metals and alloys from raw materials such as ore or scrap, their purification, alloying, shaping, protection, and their ability to have suitable properties during their lifetime; It is defined as an
interdisciplinary field that deals with the production method, properties, structure and composition of materials, their performance and the strong relations between them, and most importantly, environmental concerns / responsibilities in the production-use
process.
The development, enrichment, safety and increase in the quality of life of humanity has almost all been parallel to the development of new materials and products produced with their use. Without new materials and their efficient production,
modern world tools and equipment, machines, computers, automobiles, aircraft, communication tools and products for structural purposes would not have been possible. For this reason, it is seen that the basic materials used by civilizations give their
names to the ages. The stone age, which is the later process and which is defined by the shaping of the rocks formed as a result of the cooling of the lava that emerged with the eruption of Hasan Mountain in Eastern Anatolia, the bronze age, which
is defined by the development of economic structure and knowledge, iron and copper production and after a long process learning the alloying technique. is the best example of this. In terms of the historical development of metallurgy, the Anatolian
civilizations' undertaking a historical mission, the birth of the first metallurgists in this country and their guiding the history of humanity lead us in this regard.
Understanding the flawless structures of materials in nature and producing
similar structures synthetically and presenting them to the service of humanity will continue to maintain its importance in the future. The production and processing of these materials, which can be described as "new, advanced or high-tech materials",
in accordance with the usage requirements in an economical and environmentally friendly manner is at least as important as the discovery and development of these materials. For this reason, the importance of production and processing methods is increasing
with the developments in these materials.
International relations in the field of Manufacturing Metallurgy and Technologies Engineering are highly developed, with RWTH Aachen University in Germany, Max-Planck Institut, TU Bergakademie Freiberg,
Chalmers University in Sweden, KTH University in Switzerland, NTNU Trondheim in Norway, USA. Various scientific cooperation activities are carried out with Argonne National Laboratory, MIT, University of Cambridge in England, ISMAN in Russia and CNR-Lecco
in Italy. Graduates of the Production Metallurgy and Technologies Engineering Program play a very important role in meeting the need for "equipped people" that will accelerate the technological development of our country as a program with a high interdisciplinary
character, which has been increasing its importance since the beginning of history with industrial development. Our graduates can work in enterprises in the production of all engineering materials, in national and international industries, and in
research and development centers.
